Budding BBC Reporters join National News Day

Schools the length and breadth of the country were invited to take part, although the map on the BBC website showed just one school representing Bassetlaw... ours!

Acting Assistant Principal, Sarah Withall, who is also the school's Gifted and Talented co-ordinator, led the event.  She said she was "delighted" with the way students from different schools worked together.  She also praised the Year 7 students who helped out, working with the younger students and leading different activities.

Vice Principal at the Academy, Jason White, who leads on transition from primary to secondary school, told us that the day had been a complete success.  "Links with our family of schools in particular are very strong, and it's encouraging to see that recruitment from almost every feeder school is up for next year.  Students join us from around 30 different primaries each year, and they settle really quickly.  I was amazed to see so many of them in the West Side Story cast, just six months after joining the school."
