Elizabethan Shot Putter Triumphs Again

Emma Dakin, a Year 9 student at The Elizabethan Academy Retford, is not only the school’s best ‘Shot Putter’ she is fast becoming the best in the county.

Emma currently has several trophies and medals under her belt.  Since the beginning of the year Emma has won the County Indoor Mini League trophy for best performances, finishing on Sunday 12 January, having won every shot competition in the series.  She was selected to represent Nottinghamshire at the Inter County Sports-hall Finals held in Grantham on 19 January and won the shot competition there too!

On Sunday 9 February Emma won the Midlands U15 Shot Putt title, winning by more than a metre ahead of 2nd place.  She is now in training for her next event, having qualified for the England Athletics Indoor Championships to be held in Sheffield next month, where she will be up against the top shot putters from all over England in her age group.

Lynn Kenworthy, Academy Principal, said “Emma is one of our leading athletes at the academy.  We have followed her achievements with pride, and her commitment and dedication to the sport has made her a role model to other students.  At this rate it wouldn’t surprise me to see her at a future Olympics.”
