Hitting the right notes is top of the agenda for a Retford teenager who has reached the national finals of a prestigious competition.
Talented singer Ruth Copeland, 16, is hoping to strike a chord with a panel of famous judges in the Festival 4 Stars singing and dancing completion. After an impressive performance in the regionals finals The Elizabethan Academy pupil will now see how she matches up to the best the country has to offer.
“It was pretty nerve-racking but once I was on stage I was OK,” she said. Ruth sang a number from the comedy musical Spamalot called ‘Diva’s Lament’ and was surprised by the outcome. “I really didn’t think it had gone down well but when my name was announced as one of the people through to the national final I was really shocked,’ she said. If everything goes to plan, Ruth says, she wants to turn her passion for singing and musicals into a career reading the boards of the West End.
The final itself is scheduled to be staged in Cheshire in November this year.
