Student offered a place with The National Youth Theatre

Evan Horton, Elizabethan Academy student currently studying at The Retford Post-16 Centre, has been offered a place with The National Youth Theatre in London, where he will be participating in this summer’s ‘Epic Stages’ master class programme.

He will be working with some of the top theatre professionals in the country and at the end of the programme he will perform in a showcase at a London West End Theatre!  The National Youth Theatre is an extremely prestigious organisation that boasts Matt Smith, Daniel Craig, Ewan McGregor and Kiera Knightly amongst its alumni.  There are only a limited number of places available to the thousands of students applying each year.  The audition process involves several days of workshops and monologue performances.

Evan impressed them with his speech from the contemporary play ‘How to Disappear Completely and Never be Found’ and is thrilled at the prospect of being given the chance to work with professional actors and directors from such esteemed institutions as RADA and Mountview College of Drama.  He is now hoping that this will be a springboard to a career in acting and will boost his chances of landing a place in a top Drama School after he finishes his A Level studies.

Earlier this year, Evan performed the lead male role in a brand new play ‘Pronoun’ alongside 12 of his fellow Retford Post 16 students, which was a sell-out performance at the Crucible Theatre in Sheffield, as part of the National Theatre’s Connections Youth Festival.

Academy Principal, Lynn Kenworthy was delighted that Evan’s talents had been recognised at a national level.  “We have a proud tradition of excellence in Expressive Arts and we really value the contribution that so many of our students make to the cultural life of the academy.”
