Christmas celebrations

What a fantastic end to 2011! This week, we have had year assemblies in which students have showcased their talents. We have also had 50 grandparents in school for afternoon tea and communal carol singing, and an excellent Christmas concert on Wed night. If you haven't been to one of our concerts, I recommend it..the band have really come on in the last year, due to their commitment to rehearsals at least three times a week ; the choir are sublime ; the orchestra excellent.

Art Exhibition

The Art Department and Key Stage 4 students, Emma Clarke, Leah Freeman, Emily Holloway and Megan Dale, would like to thank all the Year 7 and 8 students and parents/grandparents and carers who entered artwork into the Elizabethan Open Exhibition.

It's hard to believe that we had snow in November last year, as we've had such a mild winter so far....I don't want to speak too soon though! I have been updating our snow-closure procedures but hope we won't need to use them before Christmas. I just want to remind all parents to keep a look out on the school website for any information.

I hope you will all join us next week for our Christmas celebrations....we have an event on Wed afternoon for grandparents and our Christmas Concert on Wed's always an excellent occasion.

Alternative Courses

There are occasions when the standard curriculum does not match the needs of some students; we have identified a small number of students for whom this applies.

Number Day

We are excited to be supporting the NSPCC by taking part in Number Day, sponsored by Vosene Kids, on Friday 2 December 2011.

Yr11 mock exams

A reminder to the parents of all Yr11 parents that mock exams start next week and students should be studying hard. There are also formal GCSE exams in Maths and English in January. Please do everything you can to make sure your childattends every exam.

Today's closure

I know that today's school closure has caused inconvenience for parents and initiated a great deal of debate nationally. I hope that parents understand why it was essential for me to close the school - only 6 teachers and a few support staff were in work today and I would not have been able to keep students safe or to provide them with meaningful education.  Let's hope this dispute is settled quickly.

Yr 7 in Court

As part of the Humanities programme of study, year 7 visited The Galleries of Justice Museum in Nottingham.

EHS win the Spacey Foundation Challenge

Emma Clarke and Matthew Sivetar were recently selected to go down to London and spend the day with the Kevin Spacey foundation in a workshop and performance of Richard III at the Old Vic Theatre.
