Ideal Student: 
  • Students who are interested in sport, well motivated, focused and who can work well independently and in a group.
  • For students planning to study GCSE PE in years 9 and 10, students who are achieving a 6/10 on the assessments by the end of year 8 in at least 2 activities.
  • For students planning to study GCSE PE in year 11, students who are achieving a 7/10 on the assessments by the end of year 10 in at least 2 activities.
  • Students who participate in sport in the wider community.
Course Outline: 

The course has two distinct elements. The theory content includes the skeletal, muscular, circulatory & respiratory systems. Also fitness and training are included to complete the examination specification. The coursework content includes four activity profiles and a personal exercise programme.  Students should be prepared to attend a weekend outdoor residential if necessary.

Teaching and Learning Style: 

Students will take part in a range of learning activities including: group work, independent work, analysis and evaluation work, retention, recall and application of facts.

Assessment: 

Practical coursework (assessed as a performer, coach or official) on four sports, a controlled assignment and a 1.5 hour written exam.

Extra Curricular Opportunities: 

Junior Sports Leader Award, BTEC Dance and school sports teams.
