School Communications During Inclement Weather
As I am sure you are aware, we have some wintery weather ahead so we wanted to update you on our procedures in the event the academy needs to close. Such a decision would only be taken as a last resort and only where maintaining the safety of the students is threatened, for example due to the building or site itself or the access routes or the staffing levels.
Closure before the start of the school day due to severe weather:
If we take the decision to close the school before school starts, we will inform you in the following ways:
- A message will appear on the school’s website (www.elizabethan.notts.sch.uk) and our Facebook account by 7:00 am each day or as early as possible thereafter. We will also update the website and our Facebook page with information, as often as is required and possible throughout the day.
- An email will be sent to all parents/carers (where details are up to date and accurate) by 7:00am each day (or as early as possible thereafter).
Closure during the school day:
Our main priority is to keep all students calm and safe in the event of inclement weather conditions. With this in mind, please read the information below and follow the guidance: -
PLEASE DO NOT phone/text your child/ren as this could potentially create unnecessary alarm, panic and be disruptive.
If, due to inclement weather, we take the decision to close during the school day, we will inform you in the following way:
- We will put information on our website and Facebook account. An email will be sent to all parents/carers (where details are up to date and accurate). This message will direct you to the school website which is where we will put all further advice/instructions. Again, please do not text or phone your child as this could create disruption. We do need to do things in an orderly and safe fashion, as I know you will appreciate
- Normally the school buses will arrive early to ensure that students who catch the bus are able to get home. This is at the bus company’s discretion, and we usually receive a call from them telling us they will arrive early. We will let you know if this is the case.
- We will also provide a safe place for students to wait, and this will be either the library or the main hall.
All reasonable measures will be taken to ensure the safety and well-being of our students. If you do not receive information from the school to the contrary, please assume that we will be open as usual. In times of adverse weather, students are permitted to wear suitable footwear (e.g. wellington boots, trainers) on the way to and from school but will need to bring their school shoes to change into once they arrive in. May I remind you that we ask parents not to drive onto the school grounds because it creates congestion and potential safety risks.
Thank you for your support with this.
